Pre-treatment Instructions.
Sun Protection: Avoid prolonged sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen (and remember to reapply every 2 hr) to protect your skin from the sun. Avoid direct sun exposure on the area of the tattoo and wear protective clothing and/or broad-brim hat when in direct sun.
Self-Tanners: The use of self-tanning skin products must be discontinued one week before treatment. Any residual self- tanner should be removed prior to treatment.
Skincare Products: Do not use any retinoids (Roaccutane or medical grade retinols), exfoliants, or skincare products which contain highly active ingredients on the treatment area for at least one week before the procedure.
Oral Medications: Avoid photosensitizing medications before your treatment and make sure you inform your laser professional about any oral medications you are taking, especially those known to cause photosensitivity (increased sensitivity to the sun).
Hydration: Stay well-hydrated and avoid alcohol consumption in the days leading up to your treatment to support your skin’s healing process.
Skin Condition: Inform your healthcare provider if you have any active skin infections or open wounds, as the treatment may need to be rescheduled to ensure optimal results. Please advise your laser technician if you have a history of cold sores as you may need to take a course of prophylactic antiviral medication.
Skin Preparation: Please arrive at your appointment with clean skin. Shave the treatment area (except for facial areas) to ensure the best results for both the numbing cream and tattoo removal.
Topical Anaesthetic (Numbing Cream): If possible, apply the numbing cream to the area at least 1 hr prior to your appointment to ensure it has enough time to take effect. Ensure the skin is clean and dry. Apply a thick layer to the entire surface of the treatment area – DO NOT RUB IT IN. Cover the area with a dressing or cling film and tape to hold it in place. Do NOT use numbing cream if you have a known allergy to Lignocaine or Prilocaine. If you are not sure or have never used it before, please ensure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions for a test patch.
