Laser Tattoo Removal Technology
How Laser Tattoo Removal Works with the Quanta Discovery Pico
At Piko Laser Tattoo Removal, we use the Quanta Discovery Pico, one of the most advanced and versatile tattoo removal systems in the world. This medical-grade laser has three different wavelengths to target different tattoo colours, and combines both picosecond and nanosecond (or Q-Switched) technology in a single platform. That means we can tailor every treatment to your tattoo for safer, faster, and more effective results.
Nanosecond pulses (measured in billionths of a second) are excellent at breaking up larger, older ink particles. Picosecond pulses (measured in trillionths of a second) create a stronger photoacoustic effect, shattering stubborn pigment clusters into dust-like fragments. By combining these two approaches, the Discovery Pico can treat everything from simple black tattoos to complex, multi-coloured designs with high precision and efficiency.
Once the ink is fragmented by the laser, you may see a temporary whitening or hazing effect on the skin called “frosting”. This is a normal response caused by gas bubbles forming and rising to the surface as the ink particles shatter. This will usually subside within 15-20 minutes.
Once the laser treatment is finished, your body’s immune system takes over. Special cells called macrophages collect the tiny ink particles and gradually carry them away through the lymphatic system. Because this process takes time, treatments are spaced at least 8 weeks apart. With each session, the tattoo continues to fade more until it’s light enough for a cover-up or disappears completely.
Enhancing Treatment with Fractional Laser
Before the laser tattoo removal, we may use multi-level fractional skin stimulation to prepare the skin. This treatment delivers controlled micro-stimulations into several layers of the skin, without removing or damaging the surface. It helps increase blood flow, promotes skin regeneration, and creates natural “channels” that support more effective ink clearance once the main laser treatment begins. These channels can also allow gas bubbles created when the ink particles shatter to be released rather than collect on the skin surface. This may result in less “frosting” on the skin surface which isn’t an indicator of a less effective treatment. It may also reduce your risk of blisters forming on the skin surface.
Why do we use fractional laser treatment?
greater safety
increased comfort
faster healing
By stimulating multiple levels of the skin, we can reduce the risk of unwanted side effects, make the removal process more comfortable, and encourage quicker recovery. While not essential for every tattoo, this additional step can significantly enhance overall results and shorten the healing time between sessions
Comfort with Zimmer Cryo 7 Cooling
Comfort with Zimmer Cryo 7 Cooling
Laser tattoo removal can be uncomfortable, but we make the process much easier with the Zimmer Cryo 7 cooling system. This medical device blows a steady stream of chilled air onto the skin before, during, and after treatment. Cooling before treatment numbs and prepares the skin, cooling during treatment minimises discomfort, and cooling afterwards calms the skin and reduces redness or swelling.
By combining advanced technology with skin-friendly comfort measures, most clients are surprised at how manageable the procedure feels. The Zimmer Cryo 7 doesn’t just make the session more tolerable – it also helps protect the skin and supports faster recovery.
The End Result: Pico + Fractional Laser + Cryo Cooling = Better, Faster Results
Every tattoo and every skin type is unique, so the removal journey will differ for each person. Factors like the age of the tattoo, ink colours, depth, and your own healing response all play a role. With the power of the Quanta Discovery Pico, enhanced safety from fractional pre-treatment, and comfort from Zimmer Cryo 7 cooling, we offer one of the most effective and patient-friendly tattoo removal experiences available today.
